A Wee Bit O’A Tune
3 generations of pipers, 100 year old pipes.
This album is made up of music from our family archive. It features Scott Burgess Hay with a recording made on Uist in 2015, his Grandfather, John A McDougall with a recording made in 1987 and Great Grandfather, John Snr in 1973 and in 1988 when he was 81 years old. The latter are home recordings made on basic equipment.
John would send his father an audio cassette of tunes for competition or broadcast and he would write back with comments and news. Often with tapes of his own recordings. The digitising of these tapes is ongoing and has allowed Scott to hear his great grandfather’s voice for the first time.
